By bringing to light formerly unknown correspondence between Mary MacKillop’s immediate family, Sister Judith Geddes introduces the reader to the parents and siblings of Australia's first, and much-loved, saint.
This is the story of an ordinary close-knit nineteenth century family for whom religion was very important. It is based on letters which, as Sister Judith describes, ‘brought news, interest and connection, being the primary means of communication between family members. On occasion, they brought bad news.'
This collection of correspondence gives the reader insight into the family dynamics and rich characters that helped shape Mary MacKillop; a family whose faith would come to have such significant impact on Australian Christian identity and society.
