This book is a collaborative effort by an educationalist and a theologian and is designed as a resource for the teaching of Penance, Confession and Reconciliation in the context of either school or parish. The title “Meeting the God of Mercy” captures the purpose of this Sacrament and serves to strengthen the focus of this Extraordinary Year of Mercy (2015-2016). It responds to the words of Pope Francis “all the pastoral activity of the Church should be caught up in the tenderness she makes present to believers” (Misericordiae Vultus, (10). The book is set in four parts; the first of which outlines the history and theology of the Penance, Confession and Reconciliation. The second section contains themes, scripture texts, services and prayers which are suitable for a variety of school and parish occasions. The third part responds to frequently asked question regarding the Sacrament of Penance while the final section gives a comprehensive list of wide ranging resources. Recommended uses for this book Teachers and Catechists involved in teaching the Sacrament of Penance Parish priests, Sacramental co-ordinators and Liturgy co-ordinators Religious Education Teams from Catholic Education Offices
