This collection of essays, each written by a significant bishop or theologian, attempt to explore what it means to be a bishop implementing the second Vatican council at the beginning of the twenty-first century. In Part One of this collection, five essays investigate the nature of the episcopacy from the standpoint of one (or more) of the threefold functions named in Lumen Gentium 20. Part two treats the concept of episcopacy as an issue in ecumenical understanding and the bishop's role in advancing mutual understanding between various groups. The third and final part of this collection offers several perspectives on "Episcopacy and Contemporary Culture".
