William Paulsell surveys the life and thought of Christian mystics from the time of Augustine of Hippo in the first centuries of the Church, through mediaeval times, and up to the middle of the twentieth century with Dorothy Day and Thomas Merton.
The experience of these mystics is filled out by their historical context and enlivened by descriptions of their personal lives. Clues are given of how God led them and how they responded to a call to oneness with God.
As revealed through their lives and experiences, christian mysticism is not beyond the call of the ordinary believer who longs to know God better and to love God more.
