John Wright, SJ, claims that what is most necessary for contemporary theology to treat the question of Providence adequately is that we recover a full biblical understanding of God's Providence. Divine Providence in the Bible expresses clearly, completely and accurately what the Bible says about Providence. It undertakes to give the biblical teaching about God as Lord of nature and Lord of history, and about the interaction of divine and human freedom in accomplishing God's purpose. After exploring the teaching of the entire Bible, Wright concludes that Divine Providence is not a detailed, eternal plan but radically God's universal love guided by his wisdom and implemented by his power. God opens up possibilities among which human beings choose freely and responsibly.
