in the year that marks the centenary of Patrick Ambrose Treacy's death comes a book that captures the character of the man who introduced private sector education for the Catholic Church throughout Australia. An 'enterprising immigrant' is how the author Regis Hickey describes the Christian Brother known as Brother Treacy. The book covers his biography and his strategies for successfully implementing his courageous ideas, and details his many professional relationships within the hierarchy of the church and the wider community in Australia, Italy and Ireland.
Ambrose's life is remembered for many reasons; however, it is his belief in the value of Christian education and in working for the uplift of the young men who came into the care of the Brothers that is firmly fixed in the history of the Christian Brothers.
