We speak frequently today about interconnectedness yet often the beacons of our literary and artistic world stand alone. Carol Berry in her book, Learning from Henri Nouwen and Vincent Van Gogh, skilfully brings together these two great Dutch spiritual masters. In this beautifully presented book Berry weaves together the enduring wisdom of Nouwen with Van Gogh’s gift of using art to honour the poor and the wounded. Both Nouwen and Van Gogh are wounded healers and through the way the themes of their life stories are represented in this book we are invited to connect our stories of compassion and humility with theirs. An additional feature of the book is that Van Gogh’s art work is presented in full colour. This adds to its realism and brings an immediacy of experience to the reader.
